THE BAND
Greg Russell
Greg started playing drums at age 5 – but violently (and lovingly) destroyed his drumset, not getting another one until he as 13 and able to hit things more carefully. He quickly found and fell in love with RUSH, and Neil Peart’s amazing compositional and performance skills. Throughout college and his adulthood Greg played in bands and composed music for TV & Film, along with leading creative at a design agency.
While working as a creative director, he became friends with his hero and mentor Neil – known also as ‘Pratt’ or ‘Bubba’ to those who knew him well. Greg went on to design Neil’s first website, his drum solo concert videos, the TIME MACHINE drum riser and custom kit, and more. Additionally Greg & Neil became hiking buddies and would go for day-long hikes in the Santa Monica mountains together, along with riding motorcycles with Neil on Rush tours. On one of these rides Greg took the picture on the cover of Neil’s book ‘Far and Away’.
Greg’s friendship with Neil and love of his drumming/RUSH’s music led Greg to accept the invite to join Natural Science in the Spring of 2022.
Carlos Costa
Carlos began playing music at age 7, when he started taking accordion lessons at the Milton Mann Studio in Culver City, California. A multi-instrumentalist, his primary and favorite instrument is definitely the bass guitar. Carlos earned letters in Concert as well as Marching Band while in High School and was offered scholarships to Berklee School of Music and USC. He ultimately chose to study composition at the California Institute of Arts in Valencia, California. With Natural Science, Carlos plays the “Geddy” role; taking on Vocals, Bass and Keyboard duties. As a lifelong Rush fan, Carlos feels privileged to have the chance to pay tribute to his idols. Playing Rush’s music has always been fun, but playing it live for other fans is really a special feeling. Carlos hopes to continue playing and growing with Natural Science for years to come.
Zephry Lyne
Zephry has been playing guitar since he was 13, but his musical life started long before that. From starting on the violin back in 2004, to adding trumpet in middle school and piano and euphonium in high school. After high school, Zephry played in multiple original bands, and attended and graduated with an AA in music/performance and technology from Clackamas Community College in Oregon City, then moved to L.A. in September 2018 to attend Musicians Institute in Hollywood. In addition to playing guitar with Natural Science, Zephry is involved in many other musical projects from various session gigs, to playing in his original band “Jane Doe” which is about to release their second album on all major streaming platforms. Zephry also acquired a last minute 3 week midwest tour back in May 2022 filling in on lead guitar for Oakland indie band “Bad Camper” with only a one day notice to prepare. Zephry is a relatively new fan of Rush after seeing them in Portland Oregon in 2015 on the R40 tour. He’s been hooked ever since and absolutely loves performing the music of Rush with the other two brilliant musicians in the band and wants to carry on his musical passion in Natural Science as well as his other music projects!
THE TEAM
Stephanie De Santos
Stephanie, a bassist and fellow Rush fan, has been behind the scenes of Natural Science since the beginning. You can find her acting in Natural Science’s livestream videos, as a guitar tech during livestreams and live shows, as well as loading gear during our live shows.
Renzon Sanchez
Renzon has many titles on the Natural Science team. He’s the sound guy and producer for our Youtube livestream productions, graphic designer for our social media presence, cameraman at live gigs as well as in ear technician, and most importantly; a morale builder. He handles almost everything that isn’t playing an instrument. He’s the man behind the scenes, doing all the tech work so we don’t have to. Fun fact: He gets paid exclusively in taffy and beer steins.
